Best Products to Safely and Quickly to Removing Hair Color
Removing hair color can be a hassle, regardless of your reason.
Whether you have a job interview coming up, a hot date, or maybe you're just tired of your old color, there are ways to remove your hair color from home without damaging your hair or hair bundles.
Determining how to strip your hair color without adding damage can be nerve-wracking. Trust me; I've been there. đŽâđ¨
Thankfully, I've racked up some experience and have a list of the safest and most effective ways to remove your hair color at home.
Before you put any chemical remover on your hair strands, it is essential to know what kind of color is in your cortex.
Not every color responds to every remover in the same way, and some colors are more difficult to remove than others.
Semi-Permanent Color
Semi-permanent hair dye is a type of color that coats the cuticle of your hair but never penetrates the cortex.
This kind of dye is not permanent and can last 5-10 shampoo sessions. Semi-permanent hair color is usually found in drug stores and beauty supply stores and does not require a cosmetology license to purchase.
Examples of semi-permanent hair dye are Adore, Clairol Professional Beautiful, or any other direct dye that you will not mix with a developer.
If you think you used semi-permanent hair color on your tresses, then you are in luck because this color is so effortless to remove you'll finish in no time!
Demi-Permanent Hair Color
Demi-permanent hair color is a hair dye that penetrates the cuticle and some of the cortex.
This kind of hair color can last anywhere from 15 to 25 washes, depending on the color brand you choose.
You can find this kind of hair dye in professional beauty supply stores, but you can find a few in Sally's Beauty.
To activate a demi-permanent dye, you must mix it with a developer before application.
If you think a demi-permanent color is on your hair, no worries! Although this color will require more work to remove, it shouldn't be an issue.
Permanent Color
Permanent hair color is a type of hair dye that will penetrate the cuticle and cortex to the maximum.
This color is very long-lasting, and although the color will fade, it will never completely wash out of your hair.
Similar to demi-permanent color, you must mix the developer with permanent color to activate.
You can find the most permanent color in a box dye in drugstores.
Box dye is a powerful version of the permanent color. If you think you have permanent color in your hair, remember you may not be able to remove all of the colors.
It is easy to fade permanent color or even color over the previous color, but the only way to truly remove it is to cut it out! Now, let's get to the fun part!
Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
An anti-dandruff shampoo is the safest and most gentle method of fading and eventually removing hair color.
An anti-dandruff shampoo is full of sulfates and other acids that will strip the color out of your hair.
This method will be most useful in semi-permanent and demi-permanent hair color.
To use this method, use an anti-dandruff shampoo you can find and squirt a ton in your hand.
Thoroughly work the shampoo into your hair, apply a processing cap, and allow the shampoo to sit for 15min to 30min.
After the allotted time, thoroughly rinse the shampoo out and deep condition to prevent excessive dryness.
A deep conditioner is required after this treatment because anti-dandruff shampoo will strip all the moisture out of your precious curly hair!
Baking Soda and Lemon Juice
Some women attest to baking soda and lemon juice for fading semi-permanent hair color.
While this method may be useful, it is very mild and natural. This method will not work on demi-permanent or permanent hair color at all.
Although baking soda is natural, it can be damaging to your natural hair if not used correctly.
Clothing Detergent and Dish Soap
As harsh as this method may sound, dish soap and laundry detergent are strong enough to break down oils and pigments in your hair.
Although this method is extremely drying, it is a step in the right direction to fade hair color.
You will need to use this method on multiple occasions before you see a significant fade in your hair color. You can use this method to prepare your hair for a stronger Color Remover.
To use this method, you will need to use dish detergent or laundry detergent of your choice mixed with shampoo, baking soda, and hot water. While you are in the shower, carefully apply this to your hair.
Please be extremely cautious not to get this mixture into your eyes because it will cause extreme pain.
Only leave the mixture in your hair for about 10 minutes before you rinse it out.
As with any other method, a deep conditioner is required after this treatment to prevent dry hair.
Remember that you can always depend on our Pre-Colored Wigs if you don't want to put your hair at risk.
Soak Cap / Bleach Bath
The soap cap or bleach bath is my favorite message for removing hair color because it is useful and usually isn't too damaging.
To use the soap cap method, take a powder of bleach and Shampoo. Mix the formula with two parts bleach, one part shampoo, and one part hot water.
Apply this mixture to your hair as you would regular shampoo. Like before, be careful not to get this mixture into your eyes as it will cause extreme pain.
You can leave this mixture on for 30 to 45 minutes. This will be effective in semi-permanent, demi-permanent, or even permanent hair colors.
Just check your hair every 5 to 10 minutes to see how much it has faded. Once it gets to the color of your desire, you can thoroughly wash it out.
And get Burgundy Body Wave Bundles or Honey Blonde Body Wave Bundles to protect your hair and have a popping color!
Color Strippers
You can find color strippers at Sally Beauty and Ulta Beauty.
The most popular color stripper is Color Oops, and you can use this remover on semi-permanent, demi-permanent, and permanent hair colors.
Color Oops typically doesn't cause extreme damage, but every hair type is different.
Always use your judgment before applying chemicals to your hair.
