Quick Tip: If you have additional questions, please leave them in the comments so we can add them to the article.
Private Label has sold thousands of 13x4 Lace Frontals over the last ten years, and we have seen all the changes in the market during this time.
I spend a month a year working in the manufacturing facilities always to provide our customers with the best lace frontals possible. So, let’s get into answering these questions.
What Is a 13*4 Lace Frontal?
A 13x4 lace frontal hairpiece creates lace front wigs and sew-in installations that provide a natural-looking hairline.
The "13x4" refers to the dimensions of the lace area in inches: it is 13 inches wide from ear to ear and 4 inches deep from the hairline towards the back of the head.
Private Label lace frontals are always made with 100% human hair and come pre-plucked. A thirteen-by-four frontal will have standard (dark), transparent (light), and HD (clear).
What Are the Benefits of a 13x4 Lace Frontal?
The 13x4 size is the most popular frontal size. Let’s look at some of the benefits our clients enjoy when using a frontal.
Natural Hairline: The lace frontal mimics a natural hairline, allowing for a seamless blend with your natural hair. This makes it ideal for achieving a realistic look.
Versatility in Styling: Because it covers the entire front hairline, a 13x4 lace frontal offers versatility in styling. You can part your hair in multiple ways, including the middle part, side part, or even pulled back into a ponytail.
Breathability: The lace material is lightweight and breathable, providing comfort for extended wear. It allows for better air circulation, reducing scalp irritation.
Customization: The lace can be tinted with lace tint or makeup to match your skin tone, and the hair can be styled, colored, or curled just like natural hair. This makes it a customizable option for those seeking a specific look.
The 13x4 frontal has many benefits, which is why it's so popular.
Which Is Better, 13x4 or 4x4?
Comparing the two classic lace pieces is tricky. The 13x4 lace frontal will require much more commitment than a 4x4 lace closure. Both lace options offer the same part depth, but a frontal will allow you to create a middle or side part without issues.
The lace closure can be applied without lace glue, especially if an HD lace closure is used.
A lace frontal will give you a more natural hairline from ear to ear. Both are popular options for sew-in installations and wigs, so that the decision would be based on the commitment to installation and working with the lace.
Is 13x6 Bigger Than 13x4?
Yes, a 13x6 lace frontal is larger than a 13x4.
The length going from ear to ear will be thirteen inches. The advantage of a 13x6 frontal compared to the 13x4 is the deeper parting space with the extra two inches of depth the thirteen-by-six provides. It’s as simple as that!
Can 13x4 Wigs Be Glueless?
Technically, yes. But here are my recommendations. You would want a 13x4 HD Lace Frontal with the lace properly cut in the front. A glueless band must be attached to the wig to ensure it doesn’t pop off.
I recommend using a wig grip band, either silicone or felt, to help keep the wig in place. Use a little freezing spray to keep the lace down, or consider some lace tape.
This will allow you to pop the glueless wig on and off. However, if you are like me, I recommend a 5x5 HD lace glueless wig, as keeping the lace down closer to the ears on a frontal will be more challenging.
Which Lace Frontal Is Better?
There are a few things to consider, as this is an open-ended question.
Lace Type
First, HD lace would be the best choice for a frontal. Although it’s more delicate than transparent lace, the more natural look will be better.
Hair Quality
A raw hair frontal is the best quality option, although it is more expensive.
Private Label’s virgin hair closures, made with human hair, are also affordable.
Lace Size: 13*4 or 13*6
The 13x6 will allow for a more versatile parting space and is the clear winning of being the best frontal.
The 13x4 has been a classic forever, but we are looking at the best. So, to wrap up this question, a Raw Hair 13x6 HD Lace Frontal would be the highest-quality and best frontal.
Can You Do a Side Part with a 13 by 4 Lace?
Yes, a 13x4 lace frontal allows plenty of space for a side part.
Because the lace goes from ear to ear, you have plenty of space for all creative parts, including a side part, c-part, z-part, or any other creative part you can think of.
What Is the Difference Between a 13x4 Closure and Frontal?
A 13x4 closure doesn’t exist, as that would technically be a frontal.
It would make more sense if the question were about what’s better between a closure and a frontal lace. Hey, these are the questions I found online. It wasn’t me asking!
How Many Bundles Do I Need with a 13x4 Frontal?
The great thing about a 13x4 lace frontal is that it takes up a larger portion of your head when compared to a closure. The result will be that you need a little less in the bundles department.
You might get away with only two bundles up to 16”, but that could be a stretch. It’s going to depend on how thick of a hairstyle you choose. Three bundles are the standard for lengths 16” to 24” unless you are doing a photoshoot or on TV.
Any sew-in or wig over 26” in length would require four bundles. I have extra hair when in the chair, which is always better. Nothing is worse than being short of tracks before your hair is finished.
What Type of Lace Comes with a 13x4 Frontal?
Three types of lace are popular in the market. Choosing the lace that best matches your skin tone and budget is essential.
Standard Lace: This will be a darker-style lace that is perfect for darker complexions.
Transparent Lace: Transparent lace frontal is a lighter version of the standard lace and is better for lighter compositions. Use lace tint or makeup to tint the lace darker to match your complexion.
HD Lace: This undetectable lace is almost clear, which is great for all complexions. HD Lace frontals is also incredibly thin. It’s always easier to start with a lighter lace and darken with a lace tint to match your complexion
This is what has made the HD lace frontals so popular.
Are 13*4 Frontals Made with Human Hair?
Yes, the 13*4 frontals at Private Label are made with 100% human hair. We have both raw hair and virgin hair frontals available. All frontals perfectly match our bundles and bundle deals.
How Big Is a 13x4 Lace Frontal?
This frontal area is 13 inches wide and will go from ear to ear across your hairline.
The four inches go towards the back of your head, where you can create your hairline. This frontal lace size is the most commonly sold today!
Are 13x4 Lace Frontals Difficult to Install?
A frontal lace takes some practice to install. You aren’t going to be Arrogant Tae overnight, that’s for sure. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube with step-by-step instructions if you want to try it yourself.
Private Label always recommends visiting a licensed hairstylist specializing in frontals for the best results. Over time, you will improve at installing frontals as, like anything else, it takes practice.
Can I Wear a 13x4 Lace Frontal Every Day?
Yes, you can wear a frontal daily. However, they need a decent amount of maintenance, especially in the hairline regain where the lace adheres to your skin. Taking a “frontal break” and letting those edges breathe a little is always a good idea.
If you start wearing a frontal daily, we suggest learning the best maintenance tips for 13x4 frontals. This will keep your hair healthy and your hairstyle looking flawless.
Are 13x4 Lace Frontals Expensive?
Everyone has a different budget and different expectations of cost.
Before answering this, your team at Private Label does its best to keep the prices down and the quality high. As a US-based hair vendor, we take pride in our affordable prices, which are suitable for a wide range of clients and budgets.
HD Lace frontals can start to get expensive with longer lengths. You don’t even want to know the price of a 40” frontal made with raw hair!
The standard and transparent lace options are affordable and can last a while as long as you care for them. Which perfectly segways into our last question!
How Long Does a Lace Frontal Last?
Lace frontals can last for multiple installs with proper care. The HD Lace frontal is more delicate and thin, making it more difficult to last longer than a transparent lace frontal.
Always use a lace glue remover when taking the frontal off for best results. If you want to wear your frontal a second or third time, you will want to clean the leftover adhesive residue off with a quality lace cleaner.
