How to Style 13x6 HD Lace Frontals for a Fabulous Look

Mikey Moran

If you’re like me, raise your hands and favor a 13x6 HD Lace Frontal over a smaller lace frontal.

If you didn’t raise your hands, I’ll explain why.  Firstly, it offers extensive parting space—13 inches across the forehead and 6 inches back—providing the styling versatility I crave without the full coverage of a frontal.

This means you can still easily enjoy middle, side, or even no-part looks.  Secondly, a 13x6 Lace Frontal is typically easier to install and manage than a full frontal, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer a less time-consuming application process.

Additionally, the high-definition A.K.A HD Lace Frontal used in 13x6 frontals is thinner and more transparent, ensuring a seamless, natural-looking hairline that blends perfectly with my scalp.

This gives me the aesthetic benefits of a frontal without the total commitment, making it a practical and stylish option.

If you didn’t know, HD stands for “High Definition.” This means the lace is thinner, softer, and more transparent than regular lace, making it seem like it vanishes on your scalp—magic, right?  Now, the “13x6,” as the name implies, refers to the lace size – 13 inches across your forehead and 6 inches back into your hairline.

Compared to a 13x4 lace frontal, the 13x6 offers more versatility in styling and a more realistic scalp appearance due to its extended lace area.

Prepping Your Natural Hair for a Frontal

Before we start on the frontal, let’s prep your natural hair. You want a smooth, flat base to ensure your 13x6 HD Lace Frontal Wig sits perfectly. Starting with clean hair is going to be key!

Cleanse and Condition: Freshly washed hair is a must. Use a sulfate-free shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner. This keeps your scalp healthy and your hair strong under the wig avoiding common 13x6 frontals mistakes.

Braid or Cornrow: Depending on your hair length and texture, braid it down or cornrow it flat. This creates a sleek foundation. The flatter your braids, the better your frontal will sit.

Protective Cap: Slip on a wig cap to hold everything in place and protect your hair. Choose a cap that matches your skin tone for an even more natural look.

Prepping the 13x6 Lace Frontal

Bleach the Knots: This step is crucial for that “growing out of my scalp” illusion. Mix bleach and developer, apply it to the lace knots, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and shampoo to stop the bleaching process.

This helps to hide the tiny black knots where the hair is tied to the lace.

Tint the Lace: Match the lace color to your scalp. Use a lace tint spray or foundation that matches your skin tone. This helps the lace disappear against your skin.

A well-matched lace will blend seamlessly, making it look like your natural hairline.

Installing Your 13x6 Lace Frontal

Now, let’s get to the fun part – how to Achieve a Seamless Look with your 13x6

HD Lace Frontal: Place the lace frontal on your head, aligning it with your natural hairline. Use clips to secure it temporarily.

  • Apply a thin layer of lace frontal glue along your hairline. Please wait until it becomes tacky (about 30 seconds).
  • Carefully press the lace into the adhesive, starting from the middle and working your way out. Use a fine-tooth comb to smooth it down and eliminate any bubbles.
  • If needed, use more adhesive for the frontal sides of the lace. Press firmly to ensure it sticks.
  • Once everything is in place, trim the excess lace along your hairline. Be careful and take your time for a natural look.

Blending and Styling the 13x6 Lace Frontals

Here’s where the magic happens.

Blending the lace with your skin and styling your wig to perfection: Tie a silk scarf around your hairline for 10-15 minutes. This step ensures the lace sticks firmly and blends seamlessly with your skin.

Part and Style: The 13x6 size gives you plenty of parking options. Use a rattail comb to create your desired part in the middle, side, or whatever you want.

Baby Hairs: Style some baby hairs around the hairline for an ultra-natural look. Lay them down with a small amount of edge control gel. Baby hairs add a touch of realism and softness to your hairline, especially when you don’t overdo it.

Heat Styling: Use a flat iron or curling iron to achieve your desired look if your wig is heat-friendly. Remember to use a heat protectant spray to keep the hair looking healthy and shiny.

13x6 Lace Front Maintenance Tips

To keep your look seamless and long-lasting, you need some maintenance tips. If you don’t already know the drill, here are they:

Daily Care: Brush your wig gently with a wide-tooth comb or a paddle brush. Avoid tugging or pulling. Detangling the hair regularly will prevent matting and keep it looking fresh.

Night Routine: If you wear your wig daily, wrap it in a silk scarf or use a silk bonnet to reduce friction. This helps to maintain the style and prevents frizz.

Washing:

  • Clean your wig and 13x6 frontal every 5-7 wears.
  • Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.
  • Let it air dry on a wig stand.
  • Avoid using too many heavy products that can weaken the hair and cause buildup.

Storage: When not in use, store your wig on a wig stand or in a satin bag to maintain its shape and prevent tangling. Proper storage will extend the lifespan of your wig.
