Awesome Hairstyles for Traveling and Vacation
You have your flight booked, found a lovely hotel, and your bags are packed.
Do you wonder how to style your hair bundles for a vacation?
Do you bring too many products on your trips? No worries, you are not alone! 🌄
Whether you are going on a girl's trip or time away with a loved one, finding a hassle-free hairstyle is challenging.
Having your hair in a certain style to prevent manipulation or restyling helps to cut back on time while getting ready.
Also, having your hair in a low-manipulation style reduces the number of hair products you must pack.
Avoid a Travel Hair Failure
A big mistake that many people make when traveling is choosing hairstyles that require a lot of maintenance when they decide to go on vacation.
No matter where you're headed for vacation, you'll need to ensure that your hair doesn't require a lot of maintenance.
I love to wear protective styles that I know will cover and protect my hair.
For example, when I went on a tour of the beach in Barbados, I decided to wear braided hair.
My reasoning for this was that I wanted to be in the water. I knew that weave or a wig wouldn't be sufficient.
Some hair types are able to get wet without ruining the hair, but then you'd have to worry about the installation method.
For example, if you decide to get a lace front, you'll need to use glue that won't loosen by water application.
If you wear a wig, you'll need to make sure that it's secured for all your planned activities.
A travel hairstyle failure would be not taking any of this into consideration. Another hairstyle I love to use to my advantage is crotchet braids.
When I would travel to colder countries, I would use crochet braids to keep my head warm.
It was great because the hairstyle didn't require any maintenance at all.
Since I wasn't planning on getting in the water, I didn't have to worry about it getting wet. Avoid hair failure and take all of these suggestions into consideration. Let's get into these styles!
Full Lace Wig
A full lace wig has parting all around, making it easy to achieve certain looks.
Secure full lace wigs with adhesive or combs and elastic bands. Securing your wig with lace glue while traveling or on vacation will be less of a hassle.
If carrying a wig that you take on and off, make sure to keep the wig in a hair net. Got a suitcase that is big enough for a mannequin head? Go for it!
Sew-In with Closure
Getting a sew-in is a great style for a vacation.
Adding a closure instead of leaving hair keeps the maintenance of the style to a minimum.
A closure is a medium patch (2 inches by 2 inches) of lace that emulates the natural hairline and part.
With closure, there is no need to struggle to blend your leave out every day.
Hair Extensions come in various textures such as straight, wavy, kinky curly, and afro-textured hair.
Senegalese Twists, Faux Locs, or Braids
Going for an earthy vibe?
Try boho braids, faux locs, and Senegalese twists. They are perfect for swimming and on the beach leisure.
These styles use jumbo braiding hair; the hair comes in 80-inches. Senegalese and Braids vary in size, but it depends on your personal preference.
Find a hair extension that is light and does not feel heavy on your head (Marley's hair is popular).
This will definitely help you if you want to move around and be active during your trip. While wearing this style on vacation, very little product is needed.
If you feel that your scalp is dirty or itchy, use shampoo and rinse braids, then towel dry.
Use caution: the hair becomes heavy when wet.
Faux locs mimic dreadlocks, so they are a little more time-consuming during installation. Install faux locs using synthetic hair, human hair, or yarn.
Mini Twists
Are you not a fan of having hair added to your twists?
If you have naturally kinky curly hair, mini twists are a style that you can do yourself. Twist on hair that is dry or slightly damp to minimize shrinkage.
Mini twists take a while to do, so grab your favorite curling cream and put on a movie to pass the time.
Wear them for as long as you please, and unravel them whenever you want. You can wash and condition your hair while you still have the twist installed.
Crochet Braids
Crochet braids are also known as latch braids.
This style and method have been around since the 1990's! With crochet braids, the possibilities are endless: several styles, lengths, colors, curly, straight, etc. This style is easy to install if you are up for the task.
This style is not ideal for swimming, but it is okay for the hair to get wet. Marley braiding hair works well with the crochet method.
Use Marley hair for braid-outs, twist-outs, and perm rod sets. For easy installation, buy hair that is already pre-curled.
Faux Ponytail or Bun
Wearing a faux ponytail or bun is a wonderful way to protect your style.
For a low or high ponytail, choose hair extensions that closely match your natural hair. Use extensions that have wefts for easy installation.
For a ponytail, slick your hair back into a low or high bun, wrap the extension hair around the bun, and that is it!
For a bun, start with a ponytail; use bobby pins to wrap the hair and secure the ends.
Crown Braid
The crown braid is perfect for any occasion- not just vacation.
It is one of those go-to quick, easy styles. If you are not the best braider, try creating a flat twist.
Apply a gel or pomade to help the hair lay flat while braiding.
Start off this style on damp or wet hair, but if you have thicker hair, starting on dry or stretched hair is best. Make sure to cover your crown braid with a scarf or bonnet to maintain.
Ghana Braids or Feed-In Braids
Ghana braids are an African style of braiding the hair:
Four large cornrow braids with curvy parts.
They vary in technique, size, and length. Ghana braids use extension hair, which will also protect your hair underneath. Feel free to add colorful hair for a festive look.
Bantu Knots
Want to turn heads?
Try Bantu knots! Styling the hair in Bantu knots is used to achieve a curly style once unraveled.
Women are enjoying leaving the Bantu knots in and wearing them out as a style. To achieve this style, start off with damp or freshly washed hair.
Make a square or triangle part, depending on the look you want.
After parting, twist the section of the hair as if you are doing a finger coil.
As you are twisting the hair, you will see the coil begin to wrap around itself- like a knot.
Wrap the coil around itself and secure the ends to the base with a bobby pin or small rubber band.
Keep It Versatile
If you're someone who travels consistently, you may want to try out every listed style.
You'll want to keep your looks fresh and new for each photo op you have out of town. Don't be afraid to try out some travel hair hacks also.
A travel hair hack can be anything from bringing along different hairstyles to switch up your hairstyle to bringing some hair tools to achieve your best look.
If I'm going on an extended vacation, I usually try to bring as many styles and tools with me.
For extended vacations, I bring different wigs. This way, I can switch up the style and be versatile.
When I feel like being fun, I wear a curly style. If I'm feeling more professional, I wear a bone-straight style.
It all depends on your reasoning for travel. All of the hairstyles listed are great for traveling, but it's also important to maintain your sense of style.
What do you need to add or take away for the style to feel unique to you?
Stepping outside of the box is important when it comes to travel hairstyles.
Hair Extensions Can Be a Big Help!
Having your hair already styled will allow you to enjoy your trip or vacation.
Aim for styles that are low manipulation and that give you the ability to keep your hair moisturized.
The goal is to make the most out of your trip without hairstyle woes. Making travel arrangements is already stressful enough- and worrying about your hairstyle does not need to add to it.
Also, if you're traveling with people, particularly children, you'll want to make sure you choose something easy and manageable. 🌟
I've made the mistake of traveling with children and having my hair ruined because of all the necessary upkeep.
