You’ve got someone doting on you and making sure your make-up that is red-carpet-worth. Now, as it seems, all that is left is your wedding hair.
Your hair is okay but okay is not good enough. You want it absolutely flawless.
You’ve looked at different cuts, colors, and styles and just haven’t found the right one for you.
How about trying something you’ve heard about but never truly considered. Extensions. That’s right; we said human hair extensions.
What if they don’t match my hair color?
What if they look bad? I’ve heard they hurt. What if they fall out?
These are all questions you may have, but don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. We’re going to talk with you about the different styles and quite possibly find what is perfect for you. Now, let’s get started.
There are a few different types of hair extensions. They range from extremely easy and do it yourself in style, to the ones that are done by professionals.
Let's Talk about Clip-ins
Clip-in extensions are ideally the perfect choice if you don’t want to spend hours in a beauty shop chair having your head tugged this way and that.
They are easy to deal with, and you can even curl them.
If you’re a bride that doesn’t have time to go in days before to get your poor scalp tugged on, tortured and tenderized, then perhaps the clip-in extensions are the best for you.
They work really well on all occasions. Once you are done with your wedding, you can take them out and store them for any occasion.
With proper clip-in extensions care, clip-ins can last for months in or out of your hair. These extensions are especially perfect if you want to have your hair down thick, luxurious curls or in a low style.
Be careful, though. If you’re going to wear your hair in an up-do, it is important that you make sure the seams and lines are all concealed and blended with your natural hair.
Clip-ins are beautiful, but if they aren’t placed properly the fakeness of them can easily be identified.
It’s extremely important that you find someone that knows what they are doing. Obviously, you can’t just clip them anywhere and be good to go.
No, it doesn’t quite work that way. In order to have a successful clip in hair extension in place, you need to know what you are doing.
While they aren’t extremely hard to manage, if you’ve got a lot of hair and are doing it yourself, it could become tiresome and a bit tricky to get them in properly. Here are a few quick and easy tips and tricks for you to follow.
Hint 1: First and foremost, make sure you get your matching color. It is always best to go into a store that carries these rather than to order them online.
If you order online, make sure you get them in plenty of time to find replacements if they don’t match up.
Clips-ins comes in different shades from Jet Black Clip-Ins to Honey Blonde Clip-Ins Extensions.
Make sure your natural hair is clean, dry and free of any of those pesky tangles. Also, it is a good idea to make sure the extension is also tangle-free. You can do this by making sure it’s laid out on a flat surface.
Next, you want to make sure your hair is parted into sections—depending on the length you want to go. The longer ones go on the bottom and the higher you go up, the shorter they will become.
Now, if you have baby fine hair or really thin hair, you run the risk of the clip falling out. To prevent this—after you’ve sectioned off your hair—take a fine-tooth comb and tease and spray the roots.
This will add texture and give the clips something to hang on to. This will also reduce the risk of the clip falling out.
Teasing the hair at the roots can also be done if you have thicker hair if you wish to add more volume.
Hint 2: After you’ve got the first extension securely in place, it’s time to keep going.
Remove the pin from the section above it and repeat the steps above. DON’T FORGET TO keep each section as tangle-free as possible.
This is important because if too much tugging and pulling on the natural hair happens, it could loosen the clip and cause it to fall out.
Hint 3: As you gradually work your way up, be sure to secure all the clips in place. The wider pieces are designed to go completely around the back of your head. However, there will be a couple of pieces that are smaller.
These pieces are typically for the front of the head. These are filler pieces and should be placed wherever is needed.
Once all the pieces are in place, all that is left is to style. The majority of the clip-in extensions are made of real human hair.
It is important that you get these pieces because they will hold up to heat well. They can also be washed and dried just like your normal hair. Another style of hair extensions is the glue-in or bonded.
These extensions look amazing if you have the time to keep up with them. This specific style is used by bonding the extension with the natural hair at the root with keratin bonds fused to the natural hair with a hot tool.
Yeah, sounds painful, but if you find someone that knows what they are doing, you won’t have a problem at all.
The problem with this style of extension is they require a large amount of upkeep. Which means you’re required to make a trip to the salon for regular visits.
This can also get very expensive after a while. Also, unlike the clip-ins, conditioners and oils cannot be used on them.
The third type of hair extensions is probably one that takes the most time patience and money. This hair extension is the sew-in or weave. These types of extensions are perfect for hair that is extra curly, coarse or extremely thick.
When getting the sew-ins, you might want to prepare to have your scalp tugged and pulled on relentlessly.
If you’ve never had them, your natural hair is tightly braided. Once it’s been braided, the extension is then sewn into each section of the braid. These extensions, like the bonded extensions, require a lot of maintenance.
Most places recommend that you visit the salon every six weeks to make sure the sections where it has been sewn into the natural hair are still holding up securely. Another idea for hair extensions would be Tape-In Extensions.
Tape-In Extension Option
While these extensions sometimes get a bad reputation for damaging and sometimes even matting the hair, if they are applied correctly—like with all extensions—this problem will not happen.
So how do Tape extensions work? It kind of sounds like something extremely painful to remove.
Tape-in extensions have two bits on end. They are pushed up against the roots of the hair and clamped around the natural hair.
These styles are good, and if taken care of properly, they can last for quite a long time.
Like with the others, as your natural hair begins to grow, it is easier for them to get tangled.
However, these extensions can last for months without too much maintenance. Whatever extension you decide to use, remember this day belongs to you. Chose whichever one it is that you feel suited for, and smile big.
This is the day you’ve been waiting for all your life. Make sure you get the hair you’ve always dreamed of.
